Biographical / Historical

On 1 August 1961, when the first meeting of this club was held in the A.A. Southland Board Room, it was determined to seek affiliation with AA. This was decided when members voted unanimously to associate with the Automobile Association of Southland, and to accept the stipulation that all club members must also be members of A.A.

From October 1962 club rallies were held at these locations:

Dolomore Park, Gore; Wyndham Racecourse; Tussock Creek Domain, near Winton; 243 Elles Road South; Lumsden; Frankton; Otautau; Lawrence; Te Anau; Colac Bay; Riverton Rocks; Roxburgh; Alexandra; Piano Flat, near Waikaka; Taringatura Camp; Waikaia; Woodlands and Hedgehope. Some sites were visited more than once.

As the list shows, a family or individual participating in club rallies, would enjoy a diversity of holidays throughout Southland.
