This item is a hard-covered notebook and details the activites of the Woodlands Ladies Committee of the Patriotic Society for 1940.
9 March 1940: Meetings commence with business committee oraganisation, preparations to ake up and despatch parcels to soldiers, plus the knitting of scarves, pullovers,mittens nad the making of Khaki handkerchiefs, facecloths and serviettes. They also had to find empty biscuit tins in which to pack food and other items. Women also knitted jumpers for refugee children. Women worked to a monthly branch quota, as directed from a central agency. For example, the Easter Quota for parcels was 22.
14 March: Election of Officers. Monthly meetings were held during the 'busy season'.
Enclosures include: Newspaper clippings, inside front cover, that detail district events. Letter, dated 4/11/1942 form soldier, R. McNatty.
At He Back of the Notebook: 1. Contents of trunks 2. Addresses and Service Numbers for local boys on Active Service. 3. Amounts of wool received from 'Depot'. 4. Contents of parcels sent. 5. Donated articles.
On Cover: Copy of letter from TW Ogilvie, Christmas lettergram from 548980 Pvte Straith, J C.
Other occasions of note: 12 February 1940: Farewell committee - functions on occasions of final leave. 11 March 1940: Names of soldiers presented with 'wristlette watches'. Meeting records end 4 October 1940.
