Dear Dorothy & all at home, I received a letter from you yesterday, written on the 31st May, and was pleased to hear from you again. As you will see there has been a bit of a mix-up in our mail, as we have got letters from you written in June & July before we got this one. I wrote home to you two days ago so this will be a short letter. Well here is some good news, about an hour after I had sent away the letter I wrote to you two days ago, I was sitting by my Ambulance and who should come along but good old Barney. He did not see me at first but he said he picked the bus by Lenore’s name on it and was pretty sure it would be mine h is fit and well and has lost a bit of weight. He told me to tell Maisie that he would be writing as soon as

got out of the desert and asked me to send you all at home his love. I showed him the photos of Lenore and he said what a bonny wee kid she has grown. He does not get much time for writing, so I promised him I would write home for him so am doing so now for both of us. At present I am sitting in my modern flat which is a few yards away from my bus. This flat of mine is about seven feet long, three feet wide and three feet deep and built entirely of sand. The only furnishings I have in it are my blankets, my pillow Mum made me on final leave and an empty petrol tin which I am using as my writing desk. T he only trouble with it is the windows will not keep out the flies and every now and then I have to stop and chase a few out of my ears and moustache. You should see this mo of mine, it is not a bad effort. Well Here is a spot more news I forgot

to put in the other letter. A few days ago I was talking to Stewart Kidd, and he also sends his regards to you all at home. So Vic Drummond is in the Air Force, I wonder what sort of a Job he has there. Tell Dad to give Mr Dell my regards next time he sees him. I have not seen Ray since about the beginning of the year, but he may be home by the time you get this. If you happen to see Billy Russell again, give him my regards and tell him I saw Tenny a few days ago. I expect to see Barney again within the next week or so, and the other day he put his name in the autograph book you sent. As soon as it is full I will post it home to you. I hope I will be able to send you some films for your camera, shortly and also some more snaps from here. Barney and I are going to get our photos taken together as soon as we get out of the desert, which
