Dear Dorothy,
I received your letter of 14th June just before going to dinner today and was pleased to hear from you once more. We have been waiting quite a while for this mail to arrive and just got a little of it today. The rest of it, we should get tomorrow and the next day it usually takes two or three days to get it all. What a pity you missed your few days at Riverton with Mona, it would have been a good break for you. I did not know until I read your letter that Kath and Alex had another addition to the family, give them my regards whenever you write to them. I’ll bet they are thrilled that the new arrival is a boy, Alex will be a proud

Daddy. If you happen To see Margaret Timpany again, give her my regards and also I was asking for her small daughter. So Les Troon is married at last, tell him that will cost him a few pints when I get home. I never managed to meet up with Les, over here. Give Joe Scobie my regards when you see him again, I didn’t see him either while he was over here. That was jolly decent of your Billy Souness to give you the means to send that parcel, thank him very much for me. You seem to have good neighbours in Mrs William’s place and as you say there will be a few more children for Chris to teach. I wonder what happened to the mail at your end, I see you did not have a letter for about seven weeks. I always write at least four letter a month home, so some of the mail must have gone missing. That photo Dad
got in the letter must have been the one I had taken while on leave in Alexandria. Well Dorothy I will leave this letter until tomorrow as there will be more mail in, in the morning. Sat 21st Well Dot I have just received another letter from you, two from Mum and another from Ilena so you can see our mail is coming in , a bit every day. There is still more to come, however I will answer these two this afternoon I have been having a snore off since dinner and have just this minute woken up, the time being three o’clock. I usually have a snore off for a short while during the afternoons. I am pleased to see that you have received some more of my letters, and also the airgraph let’s hope you did not have to hard a job to read it. I see by this letter I got today that you have sent the parcel Mr Souness gave you the necessary to send it with,
thanks a lot and don’t forget to thank Mr Souness for me. I will let you know as soon as I get it. So Frances and young Duncan stayed out at home instead of going to Christchurch, they would be great company for Mum, especially while Maisie was down at Riverton with Mona. Give my regards to all the Russells and also Les and Lorrell Grant next time you see them. I see that you and Dad still go to the dances. Wait till I get home and then we will go to some dances and plenty of them. Tell Bob King I was also asking for him and Joe Scobie next time you see him. Frances and Duncan would have a good time at Riverton with Mona. You must be giving that push bike of yours plenty of work. You seem to be enjoying life at the hospital and it is alright being able to get our home so often. I am looking forward to
getting a snap of Sister Ahern, if I remember rightly you said you were going to send one of yourself and her. By the way I think I asked you in one of my recent letters if Sister Condon had a brother over here. There is a chap called Vic Condon over here who comes from Southland and was sergeant of one of our A.S.C. companies when we were in base training camp after our arrival here. Give both Sisters Ahern and Condon my regards. I have not seen Jock since yesterday just after dinner but will be seeing him after tea tonight. He was in town last night, but I was over at his hut having a bit of a band practice. The two sergeants who share the same cubicle in the hut and another sergeant in the next one and myself have a bit of an orchestra. We have the piano accordion, banjo, violin and trumpet, and have quite a few
musical nights. Jock was telling me yesterday that a chap told him that Russell has arrived over here with the new arrivals who landed here a few days ago, so he is busy trying to locate him. I am afraid that will be a bit if a day out, if it is correct he is here and we find him. Well Dorothy old dear I think this I all the news for the present. So will say cheerio just now and will write within the next day or so when I will probably have had some more letters from you. I saw Barney last week and he sends his regards. Lots of love and kisses.
Your loving brother Eric P.S. Give my regards to everyone.
