Dear Dorothy, Many thanks for your welcome air letter card, dated 3rd Jan, which I received a couple of days ago. What a pity you missed the Bluff regatta, I had a letter card from Maisie also, written the same days as yours, telling me that they were down and had been round to see Cecil Dixon. Who is this Eddie chap, how many more boy friends are you going to have, you are as bad as I was in that line. I was with George Troon a couple of nights ago and had a couple of bottles of beer with him, He is not in this camp now, so you can guess where he has gone, he wished to be remembered to you and to all at home. I see Alf Graham every day as he is a sergeant in this unit, and also see quite a lot of Mark Blackie and Jim Lennox. Jim and I are going into Cairo, for the day, on Saturday. You ask me what sort of Christmas I had, well old dear it was a pretty good one and was not too dry. You all

must have had a good time with Kath, Alex and family, tell them they will have to be down for the next one and I’ll guarantee Alex will not have a dry time. I am very pleased that I am back in Egypt again, another step nearer home and am eagerly waiting for the day to pack up and shove off to the boat, what a day that will be, I will have to try and bribe the skipper to pull in at Bluff. I was looking through an Auckland Weekly this morning and in the very first page was an account of our pubs and also a photos of Jim Graham serving drinks behind the bar in the Brown Owl, so took it and showed it to Alf. Don’t forget to let me know the size of your camera and I will try and get you some films. Write and let me know on one of these as they only take ten or twelve days to get home. I think I will bring a camera home with me I have been to quite a few pictures here in camp and one in the “Metro” theatre in Cairo. Well old dear I will have to sign off now, so will say cheerio until next letter. Lots of love & kisses. Your loving brother. Eric. xxx
