Biographical / Historical
John Hall-Jones OBE (1927-2015).
A historian, surgeon, and outdoorsman who wrote extensively on the history of Otago and Southland. John was the great-grandson of the original surveyor of Invercargill, John Turnbull Thomson, and son of historian Frederick Hall-Jones [see collection A0001].
He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1995 for services to medicine and local history.
