Overview

In this interview Mark talks of his interest weather and expeditions he has undertaken as a result of this interest. He worked at the Campbell Island Weather Station and describes in detail the layout of the base e.g., housing, streets, supplies, life, people and interactions on the base. When he returned to New Zealand, he was employed by Noxious Weeds Authority as well as running a small deer farm on Banks Peninsula. He enjoyed the isolation of the Island and returned to Campbell Islands as officer in charge 1983-84 where he worked with albatross, penguins and microclimatological work. As well as working here he also worked on Raoul Island where he helped to build an airstrip. He recalls visits of cruise ships and the first one which had the sons of Robert Scott and Ernest Shackleton on it.
