             The sign that accompanies this work states: Taonga to recognise Kati Mamoe Kaumatua and Historian Sydney Cormack Q.S.M. gifted by southern Hapu. For his valued contribution at Maori Land Court. For advancing restoration of our histories and attention to our iwi plight. With loving support of his wife Leah Catherine Cormack. Given to daughter Nona Sinclair, at invercargill in June 1998. "As the cormorant, the wise man thriftly gleans the baskets of knowledge" (Kati Mamoe Proverb).
