Biographical / Historical
           
             This amateur filmmaking club was established in 1954 as the Southern 9.5mm Cine Club, changing names to Southern Cine Club Inc. in 1963, then Southern Movie Makers Inc. in 1974.
Producing films, holding screenings, and hosting conferences; the club had 100 members at it's peak in 1961. A fire destroyed it's club rooms and theatrette in the Norwich Union Building (corner Dee and Esk streets) in 1978, and the new club rooms on Forth Street were damaged by the 1984 floods.
Note: There was also a seperate Southland Amateur Movie Club which existed 1948 to 1992.
