     St Andrews Anglican Church (Otautau)

Anglican services in Otautau most likely commenced c.1882, but unfortunately there is limited information as many church records were destroyed by fire. A vicar came from Riverton and services were held in the town hall until St Andrews Anglican Church was opened on July 13th 1902 (as stated in the 1902-1913 Vestry Book). It was built on the corner of Alderley and Queen Streets by Joseph Swap (1856-1908), a carpenter originally from Aberdeen. A notable parish vicar was Rev. Snell and his wife who established the Scout and Guide Groups in Otautau.
Otautau ceased to be a seperate parish and returned to being part of the Riverton Parish (renamed Anglican Parish of Western Southland in 1999). The building was removed in 2005 and now resides in Manapouri and is used as an arts and crafts shop.
