Content Note

Early Club history fully describes the construction of the Squash Club Court (and its extension) on a site at Victoria Avenue and in Queens Park. Also the later building of the Onslow St Courts in 1954.

-Early Club members: Hugh Russell, Cyril Hart, Neil Watson, Lester Mather. The -First Court was built on land between Don and Spey St (behind Don St Club) -Membership grew rapidly after 1949 when court made available to non-club members -Roy Mitchell Donation of five hundred pounds, in 1952, aid to building of new court on which the 1954 NZ Squash Championships were played.

The new court was built at a cost of seventeen hundred pounds and by voluntary labour.

-1952 Court Committee: Ken Tocker, Sam Richardson, lester Mather, who appointed Doug Richardson, club member and independant builder, to direct the building of the court by the Voluntary labour.

Plate glass viewing windows, installed in the back wall were an innovation.
