Biographical / Historical
John Wilson opened his tea merchant and family grocery business on Dee Stree in 1890. The building was known as Barham's Building (7 Dee Street). It was constructed in 1872/73, and demolished for the block redevelopment in the early 2020s.
John advertised the sales of tea from China, Ceylon, and India, as well as the sale of fresh butter, eggs and quality ham and bacon. He remained in occupation of the building until March 1896, when he advertised the removal of his business to new premises in Tay Street.
Mair and Shepherd Clothing and Outfitters was located next door from 1893 to 1905.
