Materials Specific Details
Inside the front cover of the minute book is a 3-page printout listing the contents of the Society Library.
The minutes commence with a Committee held at the Joyce home, 27/11/1990 and record meetings, financail matters, society activities and end with the winding up of the society in 2006. The final meeting was held at Aino's Steak House 23/8/2006. Committee meetings were held in private homes and society meetings in the Federated Farmers' Building in Forth St. Society activities ionclude displays, trips and inter-club visits and competitions.
March 1993, Club meetings are transferred to Richmond Grove Church Hall where they continued until 5 may 1995 when it was decided to meet in homes to reduce costs. 2/4/1996 the Ascot Hotel became too big for the public displays and in August of that year, the practice of sending the monthly newsletter to other societies was stopped (to reduce costs).
At a meeting, held 2/5/2000, a unanimous decision was made to cease paying the Captitation Fee (to the nation body), to wind up the Society but to contnue the club on an informal basis.
The Final Meeting, attended by 16 (5 apologies), agreed to wind up. It is noted that the Orchid Society of Southland had been struck of the Register of Incorporated Societies. It was also decided to close the bank account and to donate remaining funds to the Southland Hospice. A decision was also made to contact the Invercargill Library re the depositing of Archival Materials.
