Talbot House in Poperinghe, was 'Everyman's Club' and had a very special significance to everyone serving in the Salient. It was considered an outpost of civilisation, a rest house, a place of fellowship and service.
Note: the 'Salient' was a tiny sector of the British Line, in Flanders, where many British soldiers died during WW1.
