Dear Dot,

I received you very welcome letter to day and glad to hear that you are still in the pink, and am also glad to hear that Eric is still O.K. I suppose you know by this that Mother is not expected to live, I am not feeling the best either about it, one likes to be home when these things happen, but its a cuss being stuck away over here and not being able to be there when she does go. I have applied under the new regulation for release for essential industry and I hope I am successful (sic). I have given up the cooking game now for awhile, the heat was playing up with me, I am doing outside work now and am feeling much better for it. Well Dot old sport I have no more news just now so I will close down. Hoping to hear from you again soon. Your loving cousin Charlie xxxxx
