We are out on manruvres (sic) just now and we’ll finish up next Wednesday, thank goodness. Two of our companies are out in the hills and we are stationed in the racecourse at Matamata. I am still keeping the canteen going and go up in the hills to supply the boys with their needs every day, we are sure seeing a bit of the NZ we are in the region of the hot springs that we South Islanders hear

so much about. In the Te Aroha domain there is a soda water geyser, the only one of its kind in the jolly old world, but give me the S.I. anyday. I will be down to see you all soon, we are getting 7 days leave commencing on the 10th Nov. I think and I am looking forward to planting my feet on good old Southland soil again, to hell with the NI, its no damn good to me. Well Dot old pal I have run out of news now so I will close down. Hoping to see you in another 2 or 3 weeks time. Your undersized cousin Chas xxxxx
