Dear Dorothy, I received an air mail letter card from you, dated 12th April, just about an hour ago, and was very pleased to hear from you. These air mail cards are just the thing as they do not have to be very long to reach us. You must have had a jolly good time up at Queenstown at Easter, and you seem to be doing a big line with Eddie. I suppose there would be a big crowd for the Regatta. By the way that reminds me about the autograph book you sent to me when you were up at Queenstown about three years ago. Well old dear I have had it so long now I may as well hang on to it and bring it home with me, and besides there is still room enough for a few more names so I will see that I can collect on the way home. I am pleased to hear that you have received the parcel safely and also that it arrived in time for Lenore’s birthday. By the way your letter reads it arrived on the day of her birthday

so she would get her bracelet in time. I suppose she will be away to school by now, what a time she will have. Next time you see Noel Johnston give him my regards. I suppose you will have seen Jack Fox by now, and also Reg Ashwell. Reg said he would make a point of seeing you all. I’ll bet Edna and children are pleased to have Jack home. I am sorry to hear that Mrs Young is so ill and what is wrong with Nancy, is she ill too. There is a chap in the A.S.C. here named Bert Imbs, who had met Joyce He comes from Invercargill and used to work for Sutherland and Powley. Last Sunday we had a picnic at the Delta Barrage and had a very enjoyable day. We left here in a truck at eight o’clock and arrived at the Barrage at half past nine There were a dozen of us in the party and as soon as we got there we boiled the billy and had a cup of tea and sandwiches which we took with us. After that five of us hired a boat and had half an hours sailing round the Barrage on the jolly old Nile. About one o’clock we

had another cup of tea and sandwiches, and then three of us hired a row boat and did another half hour rowing. Then about an hour before we were due to leave, we had another half hour in another row boat. Jock will probably have told you all about the Barrage, as he and I have been there together for a picnic, if not ask him next time you see him. Next time you see him, give him my regards. I have been going to quite a few pictures recently, and the night before last saw Lana Turner in Slightly Dangerous. The theatre is very handy to the hospital just across the street. On Saturday night another chap from here and I went into Cairo ad went to the Lodge. This is the first time I have taken leave since I have been up here at Helwan. I don’t worry much about leave these days, all I want is permanent leave home. Well old dear I will have to close now so will say cheerio Lots of love. Your loving brother. Eric xx
