Overview
In this interview Doug talks about his family and his father’s work as a builder and the need for Doug to be taken out of school to work for him as a young boy due to being unable to get labour. He goes onto of his interest in metalwork and career as a mechanic working first for A. Russell & Co and then Gormak Wilkes Davidson. He chats about the various models of cars and also the cars he owned. He later worked for Vernon Russell building bikes with modified motors. Learnt how to do this by reading Popular Mechanics magazines in the 1960s. Also recalls time spent with Burt Munro assisting at various times.
