Overview

In this interview Desmond talks of his family history and his parent’s employment and health issues as well as his aunt’s career as a policewoman. He talks in detail of his own education and Gore through the prohibition period. He details bootlegging at this time. Desmond goes onto recall attending and enjoying Military Camp and joining the Christian Brothers in Australia as a lay brother; training as a teacher. Once trained he returned to New Zealand to teacher in various schools mainly in the lower South Island. He discusses the religion in the community and the various faiths. He recalls stories from childhood and the community. When Desmond left teaching, he married and ran a farm.
