Overview
This interview covers Irene's early life in Browns and her time in the Women's War Service Auxiliary working in a flax mill in Tapanui. After the war she remained in Tapanui and worked first in the hospital and then in the Post Office where she worked as the local postie for 18 years. Irene was very keen on fishing, she fished actively for over 50 years and enjoyed meeting interesting people along the riverbank. Irene was Area Representative for Student Travel Schools.

Roland talks of his family history and settlement at Bayswater on their 1000 acre farm called Studleigh. He looks at the use of draft horses on the farm, the depression years, the growing and processing of linen flax for the war effort. After the war the crops changed to wheat, barley, and oats. He describes the care and contribution of sheep, horses and dogs. Roland mentions bus services and the Thornbury Vintage Museum; and reflects on his life.

In this interview Jack tells his family history before going onto to describe in detail his work for the Post Office in particular his time spent at Awarua Radio Station during WW2 where he used his qualifications with morse code. During this time, he also had to learn Japanese Morse Code. After the war he returned to Post Office duties in various towns around the south before retiring at the age of 57. He speaks of...

He shares his experiences in the army and being in the 9th Reinforcements sent to the Middle East. Donald reflects on the effects of war and describes life after the war: marriage, going into farming through the ballot system gaining a farm in the Waikaka Valley, and the rehabilitation scheme.
