Overview
In this interview Russell tells of his early life, education, family background and how this influenced his interests and later career. He began working at Southland Museum and later became the Director. Russell details his career, the development of the Museum and his retirement sculptural projects using both Oamaru Stone and Metal. Throughout the interview he talks of his family, their achievements and the support/partnership of his wife Ann whose skills complimented his own.

This interview was recorded as part of the About Us Voices of Southland collection. In this interview Johnny tells of his early life, education and being introduced to art. He goes on to describe his life experiences in NZ i.e. employment and the development of his sculpturing through experimenting with different mediums e.g. steel, fibre glass, bone and using stones for craving. His work is based on myths and old stories of Samoa.
