Item — Object: East 10b
Identifier: S27420001
Scope and Contents
The book is constructed of painted silk pages with other materials used in the illustrations and the covers are cloth with a velvet backing and velvet ties.
When laid open the book is 320 cm. wide. The spine and each page end is bound with a wooden rod.
The book was the result of a collaborative effort by classes at several Southland schools. Schools were invited to produce a page on a Southland theme. These were then collated by the Extension Services Librarian at the Invercargill Public Library and bound together into a book. The inspiration came from a series of workshops held during an Arts Festival held 15th-24th May 2008. The workshops were presented by the Travelling Tuataras (Brian Potiki and Jill Walker) a story-telling, creative arts and music performance duo. The workshops were sponsored by grants from the Community Trust of Southland, The ILT Foundation and Creative Communities- Southland District Council (SCD) and the Invercargill City Council (ICC). Kept rolled up and in a black non-rip nylon bag.
Participating schools: Northern Southland College -- James Harest College Year 7 & 8 -- St John's Girls' School -- Waihopai School -- Newfield Park Room 7 -- Aurora College Year 7 & 8 -- Riverton Primary -- Salford Primary.
