Overview

In this interview, Doris begins with recollections of family, family farm at Heddon Bush, her education, and on leaving school going to work on a dairy farm at Rotorua for her brother. Doris describes working with the family bees. She went housekeeping at Mossburn and talks about the traction engine and her brothers’ catching rabbits. Doris recalls the arrival of electricity and the water supply used a windmill and bore. On returning from the North Island, she went to housekeep for Fred Hart at Round Hill who was the manager of the gold mine there. She describes the dams in the area, the layout of the mining area and the process of extracting gold using mercury. Doris recalls various local entities in the area, going to Invercargill where she met her husband, George. Doris talks about their children and describes being a successful potter for many years.
