In this interview, valda talks about her early life in the Nightcaps area and moving from there to Winton during her school years and then Invercargill. She describes her career starting working in nurseries and going on to manage the rose gardens in Invercargill's Queen's Park. She talks about her love of roses and her favourite varieties and also of the apprentices who came to work with her.

Peggy starts by describing growing up in Morton Street, siblings, friends, games and neighbours. She talks of holidays in the country, education and employment at Whitcombe and Tombs. She recalls the different departments that operated with in the store as well as a Social Club and Sports Club. Peggy recollects other staff members who became heads of departments.
