This interview is part of the "Discovering Glengarry’s Community Spirit" project. Carolyn talks of her travels around the world before settling in Glengarry in 2002. She originally came from Scotland before living in Hong Kong and Botswana. She discusses the cultural differences of the various places she has lived in. Carolyn talks about settling into Glengarry, making friends, interest in art, First Impressions Group, and community.

In this interview William gives a description of the layout of their large family home near Waimahaka. He tells of his close family, his education and employment. On the farm they had Hereford cattle and a Romney sheep stud and used horses for stock work. He and his wife saved 150 acres of bush through QEll Trust Covenant. His uncle James invented Holms Patent Coupling link for the ploughing harness.

Bert Horrell was born in Gore in 1917. Describes how his grandfather emigrated to New Zealand in the 1880s. Talks about their farm across the Mataura River and the difficulty of crossing it to get to school. Mentions how his father, as a child, had learned how to cross the river with a horse and dray full of school children. Talks about his father buying a farm at Mandeville. Describes going to Mandeville school, conditions, teachers Alan Prentice and Miss Barclay and sitting Proficiency....

She gives a detailed description of her father working for the Hokonui Rabbit Board; and goes on to describe her education and later training as a Homecraft teacher. Dorothy includes a description of domestic life when she was growing up, her interest in Judo and stock-car racing, and the effects of the 1984 floods on her extended family.
