Bert Horrell was born in Gore in 1917. Describes how his grandfather emigrated to New Zealand in the 1880s. Talks about their farm across the Mataura River and the difficulty of crossing it to get to school. In this interview Dorothy talks of her early family history, life and memories. She gives a detailed description of her father working for the Hokonui Rabbit Board; and goes on to describe her education and later training as a Homecraft teacher. In this interview Mac tells of his family’s early history. He recalls his family’s involvement in during WW1. His parents purchased a farm at Seaward Downs in 1926. Mac recalls his education. After schooling, he started work on the family farm as his brother served in WW2 in Europe and the Pacific. Mac discusses farming at this time as well as general living.
